Intermediate & Beginning Band
The South Fayette Intermediate School band program introduces students to the joy of making music. From picking up an instrument for the very first time to performing in their first concert, our youngest musicians begin a journey that can last a lifetime.
Where It All Begins
Beginning Band is offered to all 4th and 5th grade students at South Fayette Intermediate School. Students choose from a variety of wind, brass, and percussion instruments and receive instruction in small groups and full ensemble settings. No prior musical experience is required — just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!

Growing Musicians
5th grade band students build on their beginning band foundation, developing stronger technique, musical reading skills, and ensemble awareness. The year culminates in a formal spring concert and prepares students for the transition to middle school band.

Choosing an Instrument
Students are encouraged to attend our annual instrument demonstration night before selecting their instrument. Directors are available to help match students with instruments that suit their physical characteristics and musical interests.
